As we are all well aware, the Virginia Graeme Baker Act of 2008 has been quite a challenge. Many facilities have addressed the issues at hand and are now compliant. If you have taken the necessary steps I applaud your efforts; if not, now is the time. Beginning in 2010 many states will adopt the federal VGB Act into state law. To you as a pool owner/manager this means the states will have even more manpower and incentive to make sure all public pools are certified VGB compliant.
While it is not my intent to use fear, the reality is that many facilities will not be allowed to open next year if they have not met the requirements of this law. Some states have even begun conducting verification audits which includes a Licensed Design Engineer’s letter of certification. I know it all sounds overwhelming; but wait.
